Chad shares…
Roman was a goofy and joy filled kid. He had a certain kind of joy most of us would be lucky to experience for ourselves. Roman was The best example of living child-like. My last conversation with him was this past summer (2021) at the Fraternus Ranch in Tennessee. He opened up to me for the first time and shared with me how he truly saw his faith journey for himself. He said to me “I just want everyone to know Jesus the way I know him, love him the way I love him, and desire heaven like I do.” We then proceeded to talk about how to foster a relationship with Christ on a daily basis, and how we could show others how. He said this which will stick with me for the rest of my life. “They best thing we can do is love everyone how Jesus loves them, especially when it is hard to love them because that’s when they need to experience Jesus the most.”
Roman had, as his sister said at his funeral, “an old soul”. He was very mature and loving for his age, and we should all try to be more like him. He should without a doubt be canonized a saint one day. Today begins the beginning of his road to sainthood.
Something special happened at his funeral mass today. At the sign of peace, a butterfly flew into the church, floated by Romans casket for a second, then proceeded to fly into the sanctuary. It was clear that he was there with us showing us all that we should feel peace with his death, and joy for his new life he has received from Christ.
